Plot:
Thor's hammer is missing again. The thunder god has a disturbing habit of misplacing his weapon - the mightiest force in the Nine Worlds. But this time the hammer isn't just lost, it has fallen into enemy hands. If Magnus Chase and his friends can't retrieve the hammer quickly, the mortal worlds will be defenseless against an onslaught of giants. Ragnarok will begin. The Nine Worlds will burn. Unfortunately, the only person who can broker a deal for the hammer's return is the gods' worst enemy, Loki - and the price he wants is very high.
Conclusion:
I absolutely loved and devoured this book. It might even be one of my favorite Rick Riordan and Fantasy books.
This is the second book I the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series.
First of all, I want to point out how gorgeous the colors of the cover are.
These are the kind of books I want to read to my kids one day. The stories Rick Riordan writes are not only educational but also fun and he has such diverse characters. I feel like having that many characters with different religions, cultures, and sexual orientations is also a great way for kids to learn about them and be tolerant.
This book kinda messed up the picture of Thor in my head. I always imagine Chris Hemsworth when I think about Thor but know I just can't see him anymore.
I also really do not mind that this is actually a book for middle-aged kids.
Something else I really enjoyed was the friendship between Hearth and Blitz and also the friendship between Sam and Magnus. Their friendships show that boys and girls can be friends!
The last thing I really loved about this book was Alex. He/ She is a shapeshifter and also gender-fluid. Isn't it great that Mr. Riordan writes about so many diverse characters?
All in all, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to read about Norse mythology but in a fun way.
5 out of 5 stars
